In this episode, RIFF invites avant-garde musician Marco Maldarella from Bologna, Northern Italy, to BAIHUI. With his psychedelic melodies that fuse cutting-edge technology and primal tribal aesthetics, he constructs a synesthetic landscape filled with tactile resonance and deep immersive atmospheres.
Marco moves along the edge between modern psychedelic technology and tribal-influenced sound. With fast-paced sonic textures, he dives into bottomless depths, bringing high-definition IDM glitch elements and contemporary experimental electronics into a profound post-tribal experience.
Born in Bologna in north-central Italy, Marco was active in the hardcore and metal scenes in his early years as a vocalist and guitarist. He later became a graphic designer and visual artist. His entry into electronic music began from a compositional perspective, driven by a constant interest in the intersection of visual art, technology, and avant-garde sound. His sonic identity reflects a range of recognizable influences, built upon contemporary music, natural soundscapes, and nearly primal rhythmic structures, with a strong emphasis on atmosphere, drone textures, and fleeting sonic fragments — creating synesthetic, tactile soundscapes and deeply psychedelic sensations.
In 2026, Marco will embark on a new Asian tour, bringing his uniquely profound live electronic performance to audiences across the region.
