After a period of rest and recalibration, The Roof Radio sets off again — this time inviting my friend, experimental musician Ruhail Qaisar from Ladakh.
I remember one late night, scrolling through Danse Noire’s Bandcamp page, when I came across the album Fatima and was stunned to discover that its producer was from Ladakh. Ladakh shares deep historical ties with Tibet; we are separated by only a few hundred kilometers and a single mountain, yet because of history, we have never been able to reach each other’s homelands.
Later, through the internet and a few mutual friends, we began to connect. Gradually, I came to realize that Ruhail is a truly “wild” artist — raw and untamed — using fragmented, roaring sounds to excavate Ladakh’s culture while simultaneously expressing himself.
