It’s 3.25am, Thursday 18 September, 2020, in a taxi on Beijing third ring road. More fourth tier electronics, the best soundtrack to moving in the city. Every time I hear it I need to ask: Boss do you know what the name of this genre is? But they never know. I can’t help but think that it’s like Donk, that Northern England electronic sound, here’s why…
Oyester:
I've been working on art projects related to Smart (Shamate) for a while, now I want to delve into Smart music. Despite the goth appearance of Smart, electronic music runs through their veins. The music they listen to is as sincere, stimulating, and intense as their style. Collaborating with Mouna Press on this set, I also want to try to interpret the "explosive" nature of Smart with Donk music. The strong and uninterrupted rhythms and cheesy lyrics make people feel that if they don't explode, every minute is a waste of life.
