A basic overview of knowledge - ISOTYPE
...Neurath believes that museum displays should serve a deep pedagogical purpose, and that all types of knowledge appearing in the exhibition need to resonate with the audience. For example, in a natural history museum, a huge whale hangs in the center of the hall, but we can't understand how a whale's whiskers can be transformed into an old-fashioned corsets, how its skin can be transformed into shoes, or how its fat makes soap, which even turned up in a pretty lady's bathroom. We also have no idea that how many whales are killed each year, and how much whale bones, fat, and fur cost, while many may be interested in how many countries have a whaling industry, and others may be interested in the profits of this trade, and its relationship to the economic crisis, etc. The fate of mankind is tied to this exhibition - the hungry people, the hungry families in northern Norway - everything is about people and society.
